This weekend we proved the versatility of the ADAPT tool by successfully RETRIEVING a subsea VXT Tubing Hanger (TH) and completion during a P&A operation for Vår Energi together with Baker Hughes.
By using the ADAPT on this job red-zone work was removed, well control capabilities were improved and operation simplified.
The ADAPT tool allowed the operator to run in hole on drill pipe with a Baker Hughes Tubing Hanger Running Tool (THRT) without any umbilical.
The TH was tagged in the wellhead and land-out verified before latching the THRT to the TH.
With the ADAPT’s functional design it was possible to release the TH and strip out with a closed BOP ram for increased well control. The pressure integrity in the THRT / TH interface in combination with the ADAPT also made it possible to circulate the entire well free from gas prior to pulling out of hole.
The TH and completion was successfully retrieved back to surface in a safe and efficient operation.
