Repsol - Yme Beta North - Installation Experience

Challenge:

An operator in Norway was looking for a simple and reliable solution for installing the Internal Tree Cap (ITC) and Secondary Lock Cap (SLC) on subsea wells to reduce cost and complexity of the operation and to promote HSE.

The project was a 3 well subsea tie-in campaign coming up later the same year. With a water depth of approx. 80m the operation was performed using a jackup rig, with a surface BOP and a subsea well access system consisting of a flanged 19” ID HP Riser and a 8 5/8” WOR.

Solution:

The ADAPT tool for umbilical-less Tubing Hanger (TH) installation was chosen for the task. Due to completion from a jackup rig, with a surface BOP, Simple Tools came up with a modified solution using the ADAPT to operate the Tubing Hanger Running Tool (THRT).

According to a narrow project timeline the solution was designed, tested and a System Integration Test (SIT) performed. Everything according to strict customer quality requirements.

Results

In 2022 the two first runs with the system was performed installing the Internal Tree Cap on two oil producers. In 2023 a 3rd run was performed to install the Secondary Lock Cap on a water injection well.

Conclusion

Approx. 60 hours total rig time saving for three wells, several smaller weather windows used, reduced HSE risk, extremely pleased customer, good cooperation with SPS vendor.
