Tubing Hanger w. pre-installed TH crown plugs - Installation Experience

Challenge:

An operator in Australia requested the SPS provider to deliver an umbilical-less soluƟon for Tubing Hanger (TH) installation across a multi-well subsea
development project. The request included setup for pre-installed crown
plugs (PICP) and that the TH was mobilized to offshore as “ready-to-run”.

Solution:

Simple Tools proposed a solution utilizing the ADAPT tool in combination
with the existing Tubing Hanger Running Tool (THRT). This approach
enabled a true umbilical-less installation of TH with a proven TH interface.

A key innovation was the integration of Surface Controlled Subsurface
Safety Valve (SCSSV) and Soft-land functionalities. This enabled the SCSSV
to remain open during run-in under the executed operating conditions and
could be reliably closed upon TH landing, meeting critical operational
requirements.

Results

The ADAPT solution led to a significant reduction in red-zone exposure for personnel, enhancing safety throughout the operation. The complexity of a surface flow tree operation was removed from the rig and reduced the POB requirements during the completion phase.

The combination of umbilical-less TH installation and pre-installed crown solution delivered material reductions in rig time across multiple wells.

Conclusion

The operator, rig company and SPS company expressed a high degree of satisfaction with the solution and its documented savings. The project has become a benchmark for future subsea completion campaigns.
